On the thirty-first day of July, 1840, the ship bearing the explorers steamed into New York Harbor. The two men lost no time in preparing the results of their expedition for publication. Stephens' voluminous account entitled Incidents of Travel in Central America, Chiapas, and Yucatan appeared in September of 1841. Its impact was phenomenal!
